Come Home

Original Post: 2012

I tend to be a visual person at times. Given that, when I actually pay attention to what is going on around me it becomes very easy for God to give me a Word out of a normal day occurrence. Take for instance, this morning. I was making cornmeal porridge for breakfast to bring to work with me. I LOVE porridge (yum, yum)! When it was finished, I transferred it from the pot to a dish to carry with me. Suddenly the entire bowl that I just made fell all over the kitchen floor and all over me. (*sobs R.I.P porridge) Stunned, I just stood there and stared at the mess I made and watched the bus that I was supposed to get on, pick up passengers and leave. My mom came rushing into the kitchen with a huge sponge and a bucket and started cleaning the floor (and me). She had every right to be pissed for me making such a mess of her floor but she had a smile on her face and said “it’s okay”.

That exact moment reminded me of a very similar relationship and situation …the relationship between us and God. He creates us and we drift away from Him because we want to live our lives our way and do what we want (YOLO right?). However, when we do that, eventually we realize how much we make a mess of things in our life (the spilled porridge) and all we can do is stand in disbelief wondering how we even got in this deep, how things got so messed up and how we even got here. When we mess up, God comes running to us with His own sponge and bucket cleaning the situation up and cleaning us off. He has every right to condemn us and be pissed at us. He doesn’t. You know what He does? Like my mom, He looks at you, smiles and says “It’s okay” What an awesome Father we have.

This was on my heart to share for anyone who is going through anything at all. Your mess doesn’t matter. Your Heavenly Father loves and misses you. He longs to be invited back into your heart to fellowship and have a relationship with you. He wants to clean you and your mess up. All you have to do it come back home.

Peace and blessings,

-T
